 Tessar Lo: hahahahuh,

Opening Reception: Thursday, August 31st 6-9pm Exhibition Dates: August 31 - September 23, 2017 Location: Project Gallery, 1210 Dundas St. E.

hahahahuh, is a series of paintings inhabiting the literal and figurative space where the humourous and mysterious overlap- these works were made as a reflection and meditation of these times; a little awkward, a bit laughable, and very often bewildering.

Tessar Lo reaches for that mysterious place that exists within the liminal, his vision and approach are constantly evolving.

Born in Indonesia and raised in Toronto, Lo blends themes endemic to his Asian heritage with Western pursuits or direct expression and materiality. Working with a variety of media, he uses acute marking, colour, and texture to draw the viewing inward and create an awareness of surface and story.

By stripping his work of artifice and relying on instinct, he aspires to turn seemingly mundane subjects – a corner of the backyard, a bunch of fruits, a childhood toy – into sources of humour, sensation, and potential. Around familiar motifs, he constructs unfolding mythologies that site the reservoirs of foolish wonder and constants that lie buried within being.

Since Graduating from Ontario’s Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advance Learning with a BAA in Illustration, Tessar Lo has exhibited in galleries worldwide, from Toronto solo and group exhibition in Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Miami, Barcelona, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam.
